In the fall of 2005, Visions students began to explore the impact of the world around them on their lives thematically through the concept of outside/inside. They have used their art as a vehicle for expressing how external factors can often greatly influence people internally.
In October the students and teachers participated in a two-night, three-day retreat with artists which was an important time for them to get to know each other, engage in artist led workshops and do team building activities. In the months that followed, the students met local, national and international artists, participated in hands-on workshops, and visited artist studios and other museums. During meetings and in-depth discussions with artists, the students learned that art can express powerful, personal feelings. The teachers who particpated in Visions for 2005-06 were Judy Mariahazy, Central High School, and Dyan Cavalli, Coronado High School for photography; Stacy Marko, McClintock High School, and Janet Blum, Coronado High School for painting; and Chad Knapp, Coronado High School, and Sue Raymond, Horizon High School for sculpture. The artists who worked with Visions 2005-2006 students were Kelly Barrett, Patra Berg, Gayla Bonell, Jeremy Briddell, Will Bruder, Candice Eisenfeld, Richard Laugharn, Michael Lundgren, Mark McDowell, Monique Prieto, Ken Rosenthal, Beth Royalty, Therman Statum, Marilyn Szabo, Kate Timmerman, and Steve Weiss.
