(SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.) – The Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art [SMoCA] is proud to present the young@art gallery’s newest exhibition, “Artists and Their Children: Creating Together,” opening January 14th and continuing through April 30, 2006. This special project showcases the possibilities for familial interaction and imaginative exchange, when Arizona artists collaborate on the homefront.
For most artists, there is no divide between work and life and Creating Together playfully emphasizes this notion. Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art invited local artists to examine the artistic influence they have on their children—and vice versa—and to exhibit their art works together. Many of the artists in this exhibition say that their children’s imagination inspires them more than they might inspire their children. Artist parents noted that they provide their children with special opportunities to explore ideas and experiment with materials in an environment of acceptance and mutual play. The exhibit conveys how much impact a lush artistic, creative daily life can have upon both ages. The artwork juxtaposition of both parent and child in this exhibition explores what we might learn by looking at households that continually nurture inquisitiveness and an artistic environment.
Creating Together features eleven local Arizona artists including Mark McDowell, Steven Helffrich, Carol Panaro-Smith, Tom Strich, b royalty, Kate Timmerman, David Dauncey, Mark Newport, Mark Klett, Emily Matyas, and Randy Slack. Seventeen children will present their artworks alongside their parents |
