Rapid growth and urban sprawl are hot topics in today’s news. Phoenix, Scottsdale and the surrounding Valley communities have been transformed into teeming suburbs: artist Sloane McFarland investigates these dynamic and wide-reaching changes. One of the most talented emerging artists in the area, McFarland is a third generation native Phoenician who sees his role as that of a witness. Using digital media, McFarland logs his observations and explores the bonds of family and place. Child of God, his most recent video installation, delves into his personal experiences of Scottsdale.
southwestNET: Sloane McFarland is organized by the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art and is made possible in part by the SMoCA Salon. In-kind support is provided by Interlingua.
