SMoCA Nights became a recent winner of a coveted “Best of Phoenix” award from the Phoenix New Times, and has become known as one of the Valley’s most popular social gatherings. Presented three times a year by the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art [SMoCA], this unique event brings together artists, fashion designers, musicians and dancers from throughout Arizona for an eclectic evening of cutting-edge culture and hip entertainment.

The “Epic” party began outside the Museum at 9:00 pm with the martial-arts inspired dance moves of Capoeira Brasil, followed by the garage-band sound of The MadCaPs. Inside SMoCA, dancers from Ballet Arizona performed to the music of DJ Maji and M2. The evening concluded with a runway show by Arizona fashion designers Lacie Bug Designs by Lacie Murphy, Kiki and Belle’s Func by Tara Louise Pitts and Krissi Early, SommerChristine Designs by Sommer, Rio Dae 2am Rio Grantham, Jade Lily by Lillian Langford, Soldierleisure by Andy Brown, Coleccion by Alma Primero, Angela Johnson and Rhonda Zayas.

SMoCA’s galleries were open throughout the evening and guests were invited to peruse the Museum’s fall exhibitions, which included “Josef Albers: Seeing in Color,” “Samuel Mockbee and the Rural Studio: Community Architecture,” “Let’s Walk West: Brad Kahlhamer” and “The Elegant Line: Early Prints by Richard Diebenkorn.”

“EPIC: Fall SMoCA Nights” was sponsored in part by Desert Living, Java Magazine, Labelhorde, Orange Table Café, Phoenician Health Group, Phoenix New Times, Phosphor Photography, Robert Saenz, Swell Pro Audio, Urban Hair and WHERE Phoenix/Scottsdale.
